ALTARS, SHRINES AND AMULETS

Traveling Show

The idea for a group exhibit created around the theme of Altars Shrines and Amulets grew from my interest in the intersection of art and the mysteries of life.  The human impulse to celebrate, memorialize and honor events in our lives by creating objects that act as spiritual reservoirs anchors us to that experience, person or belief.

The eight professional artists chosen for this exhibition have previously worked in styles that embody the forms or formats of shrines or talismans and have brought to their work a unique expressiveness.  The range of media, content and mood in this collection offers the viewer a wide selection of responses to the call to create objects that link us to our inner selves, to each other and to other realms.

Creating a thematic vision by means of the art of others has been a stimulating experience.  Each work in this show advances the theme with depth and breadth, immersing the viewer in a pool of ideas that are amplified by juxtapositions, sequential placements and cross gallery conversations.

Featured in the exhibit are works by Mary Lou Alberetti, Lori Barker, Suzanne Benton, Robert Dansik, George Herrick, Barbara Jaroch, Gay Schempp, and Diane Wright.
